NRL Casualty Ward: Taulagi, Mitchell out of Origin decider

Maroons coach Billy Slater is set to revamp his backline for the July 17 Origin decider after Cowboys winger Murray Taulagi was ruled out with a hamstring injury.

Taulagi, who suffered the injury in Saturday night's Golden Point loss to Manly, joins fellow Queensland winger Xavier Coates on the sidelines after the Storm star tore his hamstring last week.

Broncos centre Selwyn Cobbo and Knights veteran Dane Gagai are believed to be the leading contenders to replace Taulagi and Coates.

Rabbitohs and Blues superstar Latrell Mitchell is set to miss Origin III at Suncorp Stadium with a foot injury.

Mitchell, who starred in NSW's 38-18 defeat of Queensland in Origin II at the MCG, suffered the injury in Thursday night's win against Parramatta.

Rabbitohs officials said Mitchell would undergo scans before the NSW team is announced on Sunday night but it's believed he is facing a month out with a Lisfranc injury.

Manly's Tom Trbojevic, who made his return on Saturday night against the Cowboys at centre, and Newcastle's Bradman Best are among the players likely to come into consideration for Mitchell.

The NSW squad will be announced on Sunday night, with the Maroons chosen on Monday.

In the match against North Queensland, the Manly star's younger brother Ben Trbojevic left the field in the opening moments of the second half for a HIA and was unable to return.

The Newcastle Knights were dealt a blow midway through Sunday's clash with the Raiders when Enari Tuala hobbled from the field. The winger was later ruled out with a torn calf and faces a stint on the sidelines.

Meanwhile Roosters forward Victor Radley was ruled out of the remainder of his side's clash with the Dragons after leaving the field with a head knock in the 50th minute.

Radley was attempting a cover tackle on St George Illawarra's Christian Tuipulotu when his head made contact with the winger, who went on to score in the play.

Roosters teammate Michael Jennings also left the contest in the dying minutes after a Jaydn Su'A high tackle. The Dragons forward was placed on report for the tackle in the 78th minute.

Warriors fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad and wingers Dallin Watene-Zelezniak and Marcelo Montoya failed to finish Saturday's match against the Bulldogs at Accor Stadium.

Nicoll-Klokstad injured his calf in the first half and came from the field in the 39th minute, with medical staff ruling him out during the break, while Watene-Zelezniak was deemed to be a category 1 HIA early in the second half.

Montoya battled on bravely with a groin injury before coming from the field midway through the second half.

Bulldogs second-rower Jaeman Salmon has undergone surgery after suffering a suspected jaw fracture in a head clash with Warriors halfback Te Maire Martin and will be sidelined for six weeks.

Salmon was charged over the incident and faces a two-to-three match suspension.

The Storm lost forward Nelson Asofa-Solomona to a hamstring injury and hooker Bronson Garlick with a back problem during the first half of their clash against Wests Tigers on Saturday.

Panthers winger Daine Laurie left the game against the Broncos early after suffering a hamstring injury.

Laurie, who recently signed a contract extension with the club was a late swap to start the game, but had to leave the field in the 11th minute.

Broncos halfback Jock Madden was also ruled out of the game early in the second half - also with a hamstring issue - after he pulled up short when attempting to chase through on an Ezra Mam kick.

Meanwhile, the Warriors are facing a period without their skipper after Tohu Harris suffered a recurrence of the wrist injury he battled earlier in the season.

Harris missed two games with the injury he initially suffered in Round 10, before making his return for his side's Round 14 win over the Cowboys. He was ruled out of the Round 18 match against the Bulldogs.

Eels prop Junior Paulo suffered a Lisfranc injury in his right foot in the loss to Souths and will consult a specialist, with the club confirming on Saturday that he is likely to miss 8-10 weeks.

Paulo's injury comes just days after the Eels announced winger Maika Sivo will miss the next six weeks of the season following a hamstring injury picked up in the Round 17 loss to the Knights.

The Fijian international suffered his latest setback as he returned from another hamstring injury which had sidelined him for several weeks.

Dolphins hooker Jeremy Marshall-King is on track to feature again in 2024 despite requiring surgery on a foot injury suffered in Round 17.

Scans on July 2 confirmed fractures in his second and third metatarsals but ruled out a Lisfranc injury, which could have meant the end of the New Zealander's season, with the club instead anticipating an 8-10 week recovery

A double blow for the Titans with star playmaker AJ Brimson kept on ice for another week after initially being named to return from the groin injury he suffered in Round 10. Centre Phil Sami also dropped out of the Sharks game after suffering a calf strain ahead of captain's run on Thursday.

Meanwhile, the Roosters will play the next month of the season without strike centre Joseph Manu, after scans confirmed the Kiwi international suffered two fractures in his hand during the Round 17 win over the Wests Tigers.

Manu did the damage while attempting to fend off Adam Doueihi in the 30th minute of the match and will now undergo surgery.

Storm star Xavier Coates will miss the Origin decider and at least the next month and a half of the NRL season after suffering a hamstring injury, with the low-grade tear carrying a recovery time of between six to eight weeks.

The Maroons are set to have the services of Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow for the Origin decider after he was cleared of a serious shoulder injury following Game Two.

Broncos back-rower Jack Gosiewski will be sidelined for two months after breaking his arm against the Warriors, with prop Fletcher Baker facing 4-6 weeks out with a knee injury.
