Experienced Jillaroo and Sky Blue forward Holli Wheeler will join Canterbury's regular game day announcer Steve Allan, to entertain fans at tomorrow evening's double-header at Belmore Sports Ground.
Holli Wheeler has played professional rugby league at the highest level, including representing Australia on three occasions during the 2022 Rugby League World Cup.
While she might play NRLW for Cronulla currently, Wheeler has openly spoken about growing up in a Canterbury household with a family who bleeds Blue and White.
She played in the Bulldogs Harvey Norman Women's Premiership side last year and has been a strong advocate for the Club's inclusion in the next NRLW expansion:
"I have been fortunate enough to play at Belmore Sports Ground a few times in my career, and even early on when playing for Newcastle, my experiences were always super positive with the Bulldogs. I remember the Bulldogs kindly giving a few of us a tour of the gym and seeing all the players and their player numbers up on the walls.
"They had said they were a family club at the time and what has stood out to me as a player now involved in the system, is that it’s not just talk; the Bulldogs are committed to creating an inclusive, supportive, and high-performance environment for all players.
"When it comes to being NRLW ready, the Bulldogs have all the necessary elements in place," Wheeler said.
"As a footy head who has come from a Bulldogs fanatic family, I am so excited to see the club advance their women’s program and can’t wait to see what the future holds for the Bulldogs."
The ARL is believed to have met yesterday, however, any decision regarding NRLW expansion remains to be seen.
Wheeler in the meantime, will bring her first-hand rugby league knowledge to Belmore Sports Ground tomorrow, ready to announce her first NRL matches for the Pre-Season Challenge Double Header.
First up, the South Sydney Rabbitohs will tackle the Sydney Roosters at 6:00 PM, before the Bulldogs take their home field to face the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks at 8:00 PM.
