Jersey Flegg hold on against Sea Eagles

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldog's Jersey Flegg has started the year on a winning note after taking down the Manly Sea Eagles 36-24 at 4 Pines Park on Saturday afternoon.

A second-half surge from the Belmore-based club was enough for the Bulldogs to secure a win in Round 1 of the 2023 Jersey Cup Premiership.

Despite a sin-binning to centre Harry Hayes 46th minute for a crusher tackle, the Bulldog's responded with two quick-fire tries to take the lead.

An increase in tempo and play-the-ball speed from the Canterbury forwards enabled front rowers Timothy Johannssen and Isaac Matalavea-Booth to crash over in succession.

Bulldog's Captain Joseph O'Neil halted the Sea Eagles defence in the 59th minute to help clinch a crucial away win to kick-start Canterbury-Bankstown's season.
