Bulldogs off to winning start at Nines

The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs have opened their 2020 NRL Nines campaign with a victory over arch-rivals Parramatta Eels.

Played in hot conditions and trailing 10-6 at half-time, Canterbury skipper Corey Harawira-Naera scored a bonus try with less than two minutes left on the clock and Brandon Wakeham added a further two points to give the Dogs a 13-10 lead and a three-point victory.

The Eels were first on the scoreboard through Blake Ferguson, before Canterbury responded with Morgan Harper’s converted try for a 6-4 lead.

Soon after Jaeman Salmon broke the defensive line for a solo try to put Parra ahead 10-6 at the break.

Parramatta grabbed a second try when Jaeman Salmon crossed to give the Eels a 10-6 lead to going into half-time.

Following the break and the Eels couldn’t build on their lead, before Canterbury back-rower Harawira-Naera crossing with less than two minutes to go under the post for a bonus try.

Fijian international Wakeham converted the try and Canterbury walked away HBF Park with a 13-10 win.
