To celebrate our 80th Anniversary, the Bulldogs have partnered with Mortimers Wines to produce an exclusive release Shiraz Cabernet and Chardonnay to commemorate eight decades of the blue and white.
Peter moved to the country after he finished playing rugby league and he felt the family and himself needed a project to put together, so they planted Chestnut Garth Vineyard to 1 hectare of Chardonnay grapes in 1996.
"We put in a vineyard and we learnt from the start.
"We didn't know anything when we started, but over the last 20 years it has been a journey that has been fantastic for all of us," Mortimer added.
The following year a further 1.2 hectares of Shiraz and 1 hectare of Cabernet Sauvignon were added. More recently a small area of Pinot Noir and Merlot was planted.
They source Sauvignon Blanc from a neighbouring vineyard and have quickly risen as a premium boutique producer of fine cool climate wines.
Mortimers wines is located in Orange on the central tablelands of New South Wales on the slopes of Mount Canobolas. The cool climate and basalt soils have proven ideal for growing premium quality wine grapes with intense flavour.
The 80th Anniversary release is currently maturing in barrels awaiting bottling. Orders will be limited to 1000 bottles of both Shiraz Cabernet and Chardonnay. Pick-up and delivery will be available from August 2015.
