After going down to the Cowboys and Broncos in consecutive weeks, the Bulldogs have given up their top four spot and currently sit in sixth position on the NRL ladder on for and against.
Prior to the two losses, the Bulldogs had won seven of their eight previous matches, so what’s changed?
“To be honest, I’m not quite sure what the answer is,” Mbye said.
“We’re probably not performing as good as we can and as good as we know we’re able to.
“It’s disappointing, but they’re the cards we’ve been dealt and we’re in a position now where we need to be winning football games.”

With one final game left in the home and away season and a number of results needing to go the Bulldogs way to finish in the top four, winning the Premiership will now have to occur from outside the four, an achievement only the Dogs themselves did in 1995 under the current finals format.
“There’s always a year for a record.
“I believe that if any team can win it from outside the top four, it can be our team if we put 80 minutes together.
“It’s been our biggest downfall of the season, not performing for long periods of time to win games.”
Mbye himself admitted not only are the players frustrated, but Coach Des Hasler is as well.
“Dessie is a little bit frustrated as well, especially being a Head Coach of a strong club with quite a strong roster.
“He’s not happy with where we’re at performance wise and where we’re at as far as the table goes.
“He’s been talking to us about what we need to do to get better.
“He is a guy with a lot of experience under his belt and he can get us to where we need to be to take the competition by the throat.”
The Bulldogs have an opportunity on Friday night to erase what has happened over the past fortnight against an in-form Rabbitohs side and for Mbye the challenge with Blues half Adam Reynolds is one he’s looking forward to.
“Adam’s obviously had a great season. He’s played State of Origin and he’s brought his form back to club land.
“The Rabbitohs have put together some good performances over the last three or four weeks and have a lot of points in them.
“It will be a good challenge for myself and a good challenge for our boys up against a good Souths outfit.”
