Kerrod Holland, a 23-year old Singleton junior and one of the club’s new recruits will make his NRL debut against the Panthers at Pepper Stadium this Thursday night.
Kerrod spent 2015 with the Newcastle Knights NSW Cup side where he played a part in their premiership winning season, scoring 18 tries in just 16 games.
Kerrod, who is an electrician by trade, could be considered a late bloomer in the NRL.
He was given his first opportunity when he signed with Knights in 2015 after he consistently stood out whilst playing for the Cessnock Goannas.
After the 2015 season Kerrod was quickly snatched up by the Bulldogs and signed a two year deal after a number of clubs were after the talented utility back. He has settled in quite quickly and is happy he made the move to Belmore,
“It was definitely the right decision coming down here into the blue and white, the history of the club is outstanding,” Holland said.
The Singleton junior was “blown away” when Des told him earlier this week that there was a big chance of making his first grade debut this round.
“It’s unreal, I can’t wipe the smile of my face. You can’t expect these things, you’ve just got to work hard and it will unfold in front of you.”
During the pre-season, Kerrod impressed assistant coach Jim Dymock with his ability.
“Kerrod “Dutchy” Holland has done well coming down from Newcastle. He has shown some good signs, good speed and good awareness of football.”
Kerrod has also stood out to teammate Josh Morris.
“Over the summer there have been many who have impressed, but on the field blokes like Michael Lichaa, Craig Garvey and Kerrod Holland have really impressed me with their fitness.”
With his debut only a day away Kerrod is focussing on what he needs to do for the team and is confident he can step up.
“I need to know my role and nail my role and I know what that is, I’ve got pretty clear instructions on what I need to do.”
Kerrod’s parents were very supportive of his move to the Bulldogs and were thrilled to hear the debut news. His dad will be travelling 10 hours to watch him play, giving Kerrod even more of a reason to look forward to Thursday night’s game.
